Pomona College : Creative Writing is an Emphasis attainable both by English majors and other majors, and not a separate major at Pomona College. We believe that good readers make good writers, and thus encourage students interested in creative writing to pursue their interests within the larger context of studying literature. This site presents information on majoring in English at Pomona, as well as on the Creative Writing Emphasis, and application materials for the Creative Writing courses.
Scripps College – Writing Program: While the Writing Program does not offer an official major or minor, it is possible for students to design their own creative writing majors and minors at Scripps College, and many students have done so. The Writing Program course offerings and major/minor options tend to focus on nonfiction writing, although the Mary Routt Chairs have taught fiction as well. Please see the Scripps Catalog for info about designing a major or minor (“Academic Information” > “Choices for Majors”).
Scripps College – English Major (Creative Writing Emphasis): Scripps students interested in focusing on poetry or fiction writing should consult the English department about the major with an emphasis in creative writing.
Claremont Graduate University: Claremont Graduate University houses the annual Kingsley & Kate Tufts Poetry Awards, post-publication book prizes of $100,000 and $10,000, respectively. Pitzer College : Creative Writing is available as a track of the English & World Literature major at Pitzer College.
